HENRY G - NY CITY SPIN MASTER
Born:
Real Name: Henry Garcia
Artist Name: Henry G, Hen Gee
Henry “HEN GEE’ Garcia, a consistent driving force in the Hip Hop Movement for more than two decades, coming from the hard core streets. Born to Honduran parents, he and his brother, DJ Evil E, grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Early on, HEN GEE realized his driving passion was Hip Hop. He rapidly carved out a powerful reputation for himself on the streets. HEN GEE then relocated to the West Coast where a brand new cultural movement was taking root. After arriving, HEN met with Greg Mack – Program Director for L.A. Hip-Hop station K-Day – and introduced Greg to the Latino & Hip Hop street sounds that he developed from his Central Latin African Honduran roots mixed with his East Coast vibe. It was this newly emerging West Coast work that first put HEN GEE on the map. Almost immediately HEN’s presence was felt on a larger scale.Soon HEN GEE and brother Evil E joined forces with renegade rapper / actor ICE-T, becoming a very visual force at the forefront of the West Coast Movement. From the earliest depictions of Hip-Hop culture in the Breakdance movies of the early 80’s and the seminal Radio club which is considered the birthplace of West Coast Hip-Hop. Signed to formative label Electrobeat with ICE-T, Kid Frost and his brother DJ Evil E, HEN GEE already had an international fan base by the mid-1980s. His early records are much sought after by collectors and Hip-Hop historians, a reflection of their groundbreaking value as street classics. Forming the Rhyme Syndicate Organization, home of Ice Cube’s partner W.C., Maverick Records Guy Oseary, Coolio, Everlast, & Limp Bizkit’s D.J. Lethal.
On several world tours ICE-T, Evil E, & teenage HEN GEE, internationally put West Coast rap on the global Hip-Hop map. This led to a major record deal with Epic Records for the Rhyme Syndicate imprint, where HEN played a key role on both the business front, performing A&R duties as well as Road Managing, as well as performing. His performing ability led in turn for HEN to sign his own deal with Pendulum/EMI, home of the Digable Planets. Signed with his brother, HEN released the critically acclaimed album ‘Brothers’, a record which set the template for the Spanglish Hip-Hop explosion, setting the way forward for artists such as Cypress Hill, Mellow Man Ace and HEN’s previous labelmate Kid Frost. While working with and playing a very important role in ICE-T´s career, HEN’s diversity and creative instincts as an artist, as well as his business acumen, also led him to work with Trauma Records, with artists of the caliber of No Doubt and Bush as label mates.
In conjunction with ICE-T, HEN GEE co-executive produced “One Nation”, a nationally syndicated hip-hop radio program on L.A.’s 105.9 (Power 106). He also is Associate Executive Producer on seven of ICE-T´s critically and commercially acclaimed award winning albums. In addition, HEN has produced tracks with the late great 2 Pac, which is a further reflection of his status within the industry. While today rappers wear t-shirts in homage to 2 Pac, HEN GEE not only did it, he wore the t-shirt and had the respect when the West Coast was at its most progressive and innovative, as well as commercially successful stage.
Playing to an ever-wider audience, HEN GEE has also performed on numerous stages along with such legends as 2 Live Crew, Tone Loc, Hammer, Kid Frost, Whodini, Snoop Dogg, Queen Latifah, Run D.M.C., Public Enemy, Will Smith, EPMD, KRS 1, Salt & Pepa, Eric B. & Rakim, NWA., 2 Pac, Roger & Zapp, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Gangstarr, X-Zibit, Busta Rhymes & D.J. Quik. Hen has appeared on MTV, The Arsenio Hall Show, BET, Soul Train, Live At The Apollo, and has featured on a number of music videos.
Currently, HEN GEE reaches 4 million bi-lingual viewers hosting and Producing “THE NEW SHOW” on KjLa-LaTv (Direct T.V. Channel 57). Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. HEN interviews celebrity guests spanning the urban community. Guests include Will I Am of Black Eyed Peas, Tyrese, Yung Joc, The Federation, Cypress Hill’s Sen Dog & Mellow Man Ace a-k-a The Reyes Brothers, KMW, Rakim & Ken Y. HEN also Executive Produces The Latin Froz,, a hot multicultural bilingual hip hop band which has been getting a lot of attention in the urban and Latino markets. HEN GEE is involved in a sweeping series of charity and community-building events, which include the First Lady Sharon Davis’s Children Uniting Nations with Daphna Zimen, and Para Los Ninos After School Childcare Center with L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, at The Downtown Cathedral with Cardinal Mahoney.
While maintaining a strong association from his background with the roots of West Coast Hip-Hop culture through to 2006 and beyond, HEN GEE is always a consistent driving force in the entertainment industry, diversifying into new areas such as the internet, multimedia and television, taking his message on to an international audience and into new markets through Gee Enterprises Entertainment Incorporated. His vast experience and background in the entertainment industry, not to mention his bilingual fan appeal and ability to understand the game from both the artist and business viewpoint, make him unique and a true visionary.
