L.A. DREAM TEAM IS IN THE HOUSE
Founded: 1984
Original Members: Rudy Pardee, Snake Puppy, Miss Rockberry
Rudy Pardee was half of the hip hop duo The L.A. Dream Team. Born and Raised in Cleveland, OH on June 29, 1957. His love for music took him to Los Angeles, in pursuit of the musical dream. With Chris Wilson he found a partner. The times were rife with experimentation and the dance-rap hybrid of electro was still a new form -- not yet firmly aligned with dance, with dance itself still capable of embracing hip-hop.
Enterprising and resourceful, the duo formed their own label, "Dream Team Records", that would go on to issue not only records from the L.A. Dream Team but other early California rap as well, including the first single from J.J. Fad. The group's electro classics include "The Dream Team Is in the House" and the song "Rockberry Jam" both distributed by Macola Records.
In 1986, the group signed with MCA and recorded two albums with the label. Electro was fading from its brief mainstream popularity, however, and neither of the records sold well enough to sustain the group. L.A. Dream Team surfaced in 1993 as DTP to issue a few singles, including an update of one of their old hits, "Rockberry Revisited." Chris Wilson went on to pursue video and music production, while Rudy Pardee died tragically in a scuba-diving accident in 1998.
Although that was one of the most memorable aspects of Rudy's life, most people don't know that along with his love for music was his love for computers. He began as a self-taught guru and eventually landed a job with Universal as a Business Services Analyst supporting the Reengineering clients.
It wasn't long after that he was promoted to Lead Analyst and Project Manager for one of the major automation and enterprise improvements occurring within Universal at that time.Rudy found a way to contribute his talents on a different level and even though the music slowed down, it never left his soul. He retraced his DJ'ing roots and emceed all around the greater Los Angeles area.
He was once quoted as saying "I don't know what happens, but my voice or something works people into a frenzy...the crowd does anything I say...it's like magic...I love it!"
The opening lyrics portray the style of mid-80's West coast hip hop. Pardee and Wilson trade off with the following lyrics.
"Ladies and Gentlemen have you heard The Dream Team's back so spread the word Well hit me on the one and don't delay Cause the Dream Team is here we're gonna make your day We came here to kill and this is our deal If the music don't get you then our fly looks will."
Two years after releasing The Dream Team Is In The House, Pardee wrote a song for the movie Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. Pardee's music career slowed and according to the Word On The Street, he spent the remainder of his life working for Universal studios as a Project Manager.
